Listen to What
Matt Meakin From Land Rover Cape Fear has to say about Rivers Edge
The
course is one of the best layouts around here. Challenging but not to
the point it is not fun. It definitely rewards risk-taking (lots of
lay-up or go-for-it shots to the well-guarded greens). Friendly folks
(full service... we skipped the bag drop and the bag guy just drove our
cart out in the parking lot to meet us, without us asking). A great
(full) bar and tasty restaurant in the clubhouse to boot. The views and
the breeze from the Shallotte River were quite nice. Holes 8, 9 and 17,
18 are awesome holes along the river. I will say that this course was
not designed for the hot summers in Brunswick County. It has bent greens
and they have a very difficult time keeping them from browning-out in
the 90+ degree heat. On the first week of July (not even at the warmest
time of the year) the greens were horribly slow because they have to
keep the grass long and they were still burnt. All of the sand appeared
to be powdery and well-groomed (unfortunately, I got to test it more
than once! :) ). That being said... as long as you are not playing
July-August (June and September may be marginal), arguably one of the
best tracks around here.
